Losing a baby tooth is an exciting milestone in your child’s life—it marks a new stage in their dental development! And for many children, the Tooth Fairy tradition helps make this moment even more special. If your child has just lost a tooth, here are a few creative and fun ways to welcome the Tooth Fairy into your home while keeping your little one excited about their growing smile and the importance of preventive dental care.
1. Create a Tooth Fairy Pillow or Box
Instead of sliding the tooth under their pillow where it might get lost, you can help your child purchase or make a Tooth Fairy pillow with a small pocket exclusively to hold the tooth. You can also use a decorated box or keepsake container instead. This makes the actual exchange much easier and more practical, but it also adds an extra layer of excitement for your child.
2. Write a Letter to the Tooth Fairy
You can encourage your child to leave a short letter or note along with their tooth. They might write about how the tooth came out, draw a picture of their smile, or ask the Tooth Fairy a question (or perhaps request a better reward!). Parents can leave a short reply, written in the handwriting of the Tooth Fairy, to make the experience even more engaging.
3. Add Some Tooth Fairy Flair
For a little bit of extra flair, you can leave a trail of glitter or confetti from the window or doorway to your child’s bed to make it seem like the Tooth Fairy really did stop by. You can also leave behind her “wand” or add a little bit of glitter to the money to give it an extra sparkle. It also never hurts to leave behind a cool new toothbrush, kid-friendly toothpaste, or other dental hygiene products. After all, the Tooth Fairy is an advocate for oral hygiene!
4. Start a Tooth Fairy Tradition
Whether it’s reading a story together before bed, taking a scrapbook photo to mark each lost tooth, receiving a phone call or message from the Tooth Fairy before the big night, or celebrating in the morning with a big breakfast, traditions make these moments more memorable for you and your child.
With a little creativity, each visit from the Tooth Fairy can be a special occasion for your child, as well as a reminder about why their smile’s health is important!
