Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Twice a year, you should bring your child in for a dental checkup and cleaning. That way, we can treat any issues that pop up right away, we can clean the hard-to-reach areas of their mouth, and we can provide helpful tips, like which toothbrush is best for their age. We can also answer any questions you have about their at-home oral hygiene regimen to lower the chances of cavities developing in the future!

Dental Sealants

Tooth decay can develop for numerous reasons – from inconsistent oral hygiene to sugary foods, like ice cream. That’s why it’s important to set your child up for success, like having dental sealants placed on their molars! These thin, clear barriers keep their teeth nice and safe, reducing their risk of tooth decay considerably.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that you’ll find in everything from water to toothpaste. That’s because it has proven to be beneficial in the fight against cavities! If your little one is prone to decay, then we will likely recommend ending their routine checkup and cleaning with a fluoride treatment in an effort to keep their teeth healthy between visits.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Like other children their age, your child may be a fan of sugary snacks and adamantly opposed to brushing their teeth at night. This combination often leads to cavities, but don’t worry – restoring the look, health, and function of your child’s teeth is easier than ever with tooth-colored fillings. In addition to having a natural appearance, they are metal-free, so they won’t lead to sensitivity!

Safe Digital X-Rays

X-rays are crucial because they allow us to take a look at what’s going on beneath the surface, including how your child’s wisdom teeth are developing. At our office, we use digital X-rays instead of film ones since they emit up to 90% LESS radiation. Plus, the images are much sharper and take a fraction of the time to develop – wins all around!

Root Canals / Pulp Therapy

If your child is struggling with severe symptoms – whether it’s a sharp, stabbing pain when biting down or persistent sensitivity even in the absence of hot or cold stimuli – it’s important that you schedule an exam with us ASAP so we can determine if an infection is present. If that’s the case, then we will need to remove the infected tissue while preserving as much of the natural dental structure as possible.

Non-Nutritive Habits

Oftentimes, children stop sucking their thumb before they start school. That’s not the case for everyone, of course. Unfortunately, this self-soothing behavior can lead to everything from crooked teeth to a misaligned bite. The good news is that we can help your child break habits like these in a positive way, reducing the chances of extensive orthodontic care being needed in the future.

Emergency Kid’s Dentistry

If your child accidentally cracks their tooth while eating a snack or knocks out a tooth while playing sports, there’s only one thing to do: contact us ASAP.
