UnitedHealthcare Coverage Availability & Fees

UHC offers a number of different dental plans, each of which is unique in its details, fees, and stipulations. We encourage you to review your policy to find out how it works in various situations.

In the meantime, here are some notes on how PPO plans from UHC often work:

  • Preventive services, including checkups, cleanings, and fluoride treatment, are often 100% covered. Waiting periods and deductibles are frequently waived for these services.
  • Basic services, like fillings and non-surgical extractions, may be up to 80% covered. Some plans enforce a 6-month waiting period before coverage is available. (This means you need to hold your plan for 6 months before you can access these specific benefits.)
  • Major services, including crowns and other complex treatments, are around 50% covered under many plans. A 12-month waiting period may be applicable.

Your plan may also have an annual maximum, which is a yearly limit on the amount that UHC will pay for approved services.

The Benefits of Seeing an In-Network Dentist

A PPO plan allows you to visit virtually any dental practice and still use your benefits, so why is it in your family’s best interests to bring your child to an in-network provider? There are a few reasons:

  • Reduced costs: Coverage levels are often higher at in-network practices, and we have a contract that controls fees. Together, these factors often equate to lower out-of-pocket expenses for our patients.
  • Streamlined claims process: We can predictably calculate out-of-pocket fees, and the claims process tends to go very smoothly.
  • Expertise: We are used to working with UHC, so you can count on us to assist you with every step of using your benefits, including preauthorization, filing claims, and following up when necessary.
